2-in-1 Field Trip to Hancock's Resolution
HISTORIC HANCOCK'S RESOLUTION TOUR
Join LWVAAC on October 12 for a fall field trip to Historic Hancock's Resolution Park. Experience the park's natural beauty during a private tour of the farmhouse and gardens, which sit on 26 acres of protected area. The gardens and fields are farmed by volunteers using methods of yesteryear, without chemicals or machinery. Learn about the challenges of soil and plant growth, then and now. An award-winning site listed on the National Register of Historic Places and on the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail, Hancock's Resolution is part of the Anne Arundel County park system
.LET THE PEOPLE PICK THE PRESIDENT BOOK DISCUSSION & BROWN BAG LUNCH
Following the tour, stay for a League book discussion and a brown bag lunch (bring your own) in the Visitor Center. Engage in a casual discussion of Let the People Pick the President: The Case for Abolishing the Electoral College by Jesse Wegman. Wegman, a member of the New York Times Editorial Board and Supreme Court journalist, draws on the history of the founding era, as well as information gleaned from recent presidential campaigns, to propound election of the U.S. President by popular vote. Share your views while sharing a meal with LWVAAC colleagues. Copies of the book are available through the Anne Arundel County Public Library system.
Hancock's Resolution offers ample parking and admission is free. (Donations to the park are gratefully accepted.)

Paca House Ceremony
LWVAAC has a robust Voter Services program. On July 4th League volunteers traditionally celebrate independence and democracy by registering newly naturalized U.S. citizens to vote. In a patriotic ceremony on the grounds of the historic William Paca house in Annapolis, ceremony participants take the Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America, administered by the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service, Baltimore, and witnessed by family, friends, and the public of all ages. The new citizens on this July 4th came to the USA from 12 countries, including El Salvador, Finland, Israel, Jamaica, Nigeria, the Philippines, and United Kingdom. The event, held in a tent fitting the occasion and overlooking the Paca House formal gardens, is orchestrated by Historic Annapolis. (photos by: K. Larrabee)
